The Dallas Reds can book their tickets to New York for the 2018 Club 7s National Championships after winning the Eastern Open Super-Qualifier this past weekend in Leesburg, WA.

The Texas club squad, which is in its 50th season, earned an automatic berth for the August 11-12 championships by going undefeated against the best teams in the Mid-Atlantic, including No. 21 Beltway Elite (rankings taken from this week's FloRugby Club 7s Top 25), No. 20 NOVA, No. 15 Chicago Lions, and No. 14 Rocky Gorge twice. and now

“We played with nine people that day, but these are guys that have played together for 3-4 seasons, plus a couple of good new additions,” Reds veteran Chad Joseph said.

One of those “good new additions” is Collegiate 7s All-American Dmontae Noble. The stepper is coming off a Collegiate Rugby Championship run with Kutztown and is living in Dallas this summer to pursue a men’s level national championship.

“Dmontae Noble is playing really good footy, he’s young and shifty with a lot of speed talent,” Joseph said. “He is really starting to jell and play as a team member in the structure.”

The Reds are a serious contender coming out of the Red River Conference. Their A and B sides placed first and second in the Bloodfest 7s qualifier, respectively.

“We’ve got 60 [players] down at training and three squads competing with each other for that national selection,” Joseph said.

At last year's Club 7s National Championships, the Reds took home the Bowl in Minnesota, which means they finished 9th out of 16 teams. However, the Dallas-based squad is focused on delivering a much different result this August.

“This is our 50th year as a club," Joseph said. "So to bring back a title would be a dream come true to repay our management and the guys behind the scenes.”
