Belmont Shore defeated Santa Monica 34-7 in the final of the OMBAC 7s men's qualifier in San Diego on Saturday.

The victory doesn't give Shore an automatic berth to the Club 7s National Championships on August 11-12, but it does put the team in first place in the Southern California region. Under Peter Sio, Shore is running out two sides—Blue won it all, and Gold took fifth.

Shore was dominant, allowing only one try in each game and crushing OMBAC 48-7 in the semis. Over the day, Shore outscored opponents 165-31. The Gold team went 2-2, losing to Santa Monica and OMBAC and beating Tempe in pool play and Los Angeles in the fifth-place playoff 38-5.

"The guys have all been playing 15s until just a couple of weeks ago," said Belmont Shore 15s head coach Ray Egan. "So they're fit. We got a really good team effort and Peter Sio has them working well together."

Santa Monica beat OMBAC, Belmont Shore Gold, Tempe, and, in the semis, Oceanside to make the final. OMBAC took third. 

The result should give Belmont Shore a boost in the FloRugby Club Sevens Rankings.
