Life's Maughan Looks To Lindenwood Rematch

The second-ranked Life University men’s team is coming off stress-filled week—both on and off the field—but the Running Eagles aren't shying away from their own high expectations.

On Saturday, Life hosts its regular-season finale against Clemson in Marietta, GA, and the Running Eagles know it's their last opportunity to work out any kinks before the D1A playoffs begin in mid-April.

“We’ve got a job to do,” Cariaga said. “We’re definitely not a finished product. Against Clemson, there are things we need to work on and do well, and we need to go out and perform. We’re still looking for our best performance.”

This past weekend, Life faced off against No. 5 Lindenwood in a must-win Mid-South Conference game, which the Running Eagles won 31-12. But Life head coach Colton Cariaga was even more pleased with his players' academic performance during their winter quarter exams earlier in the week.

“The team did well, I am happy to say,” Cariaga said. “I think in fact that a time when you have an intense period of the semester academically, that can be a good thing for the team. I know when I was a student, burying myself in schoolwork was a great way to take my mind off an upcoming game.”

Now, with the winter quarter over and the stress released, perhaps the big test is whether everyone can bring that intensity Saturday.

Against Lindenwood, Mitch Wilson was a huge factor, creating a crucial try just at halftime with a tackle-breaking run to grab the momentum. That was massive for the Running Eagles’ season.

For Clemson, it's been a rough season in terms of victories—the Tigers are 0-7—but they aren't backing down. Earlier this season, head coach Steve Lynch said this was the league he and his players wanted to be in, and they have been enormously competitive. They are expected to be the same on Saturday.
