Samurai PRP Player Of the Week: Quinn Perry, Santa Monica

The Pacific Rugby Premiership is a breeding ground for future pros and Eagles, and Quinn Perry is exactly the kind of player who can blossom in the league.

This past Saturday, Perry played a superb game for Santa Monica as the Dolphins beat Life West 20-17. He set up a couple of tries and scored one of his own, but those weren't the only reasons he got the nod as PRP Samurai Player of the Week.

“He made a bunch of lines breaks,” Santa Monica head coach Riaz Fredericks said. “And when they kicked the ball to him he was really composed, and out of nothing created some really good opportunities for us. He put us into situations where we could score, and for a young guy still just kind of finding his feet in a men’s league, he did really, really well.”

Perry came up through the Santa Monica age-grade programs. He’s a homegrown talent who played with the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy and High School All-Americans. He can play pretty much anywhere in the backline but suited up at fullback this past week.

His background spells out how the PRP fits into the grand scheme of things. As the top amateur league in the country, the PRP is a place for longtime rugby players to continue to compete at a high level. At the same time, young players like Perry who are looking to see where they want to go with the game can prove themselves.
