Major College Games & Our Picks: Still Work To Do For Bubble Teams

A look at the major D1 college games of the weekend, with our picks.

Life's Maughan Looks To Lindenwood Rematch

How much, really, is at stake this weekend?

With some spring breaks going on and many conferences wrapping up, perhaps not much... and perhaps a lot. The D1A rankings matter even in some of the non-conference games, and at this point, there are enough teams close to the bubble to be worried.

We've also got one of the great rivalries in college rugby, a playoff weekend for one conference, and another game that's basically a conference decider.

Last week we were at around 89 percent at predicting winners, but our margins of victory were way off. Still, back on the horse we go. Here are some of the major games to watch:

#25 Stanford (D1AA) at #31 UCSC

Stanford is a bit battered and will need everything to hold onto its third-place spot as the playoffs come around. This game marks, also, the 50th anniversary of UC Santa Cruz rugby, so it's a special day all around.

#34 Texas (D1A) at #25 Texas A&M

This game is LIVE on FloRugby (kickoff at noon CT on Saturday).

A&M can clinch the Red River South with a victory. If the Aggies lose, LSU can waltz right in.

#2 Life at #5 Lindenwood

This game basically decides the Mid-South. Life can absorb a loss and still win the conference, but really it's win and you're the champ. Both teams have one more game after this but are heavily favored in both. Last time these two met it was 22-18 for Life, so you know this will be tight.

#9 Indiana vs. #12 Notre Dame College

Played at Obetz Park in Columbus, Ohio, this neutral-site game is an important step for both teams as they look to get some game time before the D1A playoffs. NDC isn't in the playoffs for sure but will likely make the field. As the Big Ten winner, IU has a spot guaranteed.

SIRC Playoffs

Always ripe for a surprise, the South Independent playoffs will send a team to the national D1AA spring quarterfinals. Really, it's a tossup.

#10 Army at #7 Navy

Army has won three straight 15s games in this clash, which will go a long way toward ranking where these teams need to be for the D1A playoffs.

In addition, it's for the Commander in Chief Trophy, as both teams have already beaten Air Force. Oh, and they love beating each other. There's that, too.
