The USA Men's 7s team fell into some old habits Saturday night in a 31-21 loss to Australia at the Canada Sevens in BC Place, Vancouver, BC.

Falling behind early, the Eagles quickly showed their ability to get back in the game thanks to some fancy footwork and speed from Carlin Isles and Perry Baker.

But a distressing two minutes at the beginning of the second half, when, with an Australia in the sin-bin the USA leaked two tries, undercut the game.

For most of the second half the Eagles played as if they had to score a try in the next three seconds. They were no patient on defense - thus leaving hols for Australia to exploit - and they forced the issue on offense, with some uncharacteristically poor passes from players who should know better.

The upshot was a 31-21 loss, and 2nd in Pool A. And as a result, the USA plays New Zealand at 1:52PM PT in the Cup Quarterfinals.

Be careful what you wish for. Australia plays South Africa, so it doesn't get any easier for them.

Also through to the quarterfinals, Fiji and Argentina (they play each other), and England playing Kenya.

For the USA, finishing ahead of England is the most important thing because those two nations are in a virtual tie in the Sevens World Series standings.
