After tying two tough opponents in San Diego State and Utah recently, UCLA is aiming for a strong finish to its season and some of that is thanks to a freshman flanker.

Patrick Regan, who is the FloRugby College Freshman of the Week, not only starts as an openside for the Bruins but also captains UCLA's squad despite being a first-year player.

"He is our best, and most impactful, player," Bruins head coach Scott Stewart said.

A freshman as captain? There's a method to the madness. 

"We are playing well, but we are very young, so there are some killer instinct moments that we will get better at," Stewart said of his team's try-scoring efforts in a 27-27 tie against the Utes this past Saturday and a 23-23 draw against the Aztecs on Feb. 17.

With such a young roster, a young leader could help marshal this team to some future success.
