Belmont Shore has logged 54 points on Olympic Club and 30 against SFGG in back-to-back wins to open the Pacific Rugby Premiership season, and much of that success is due to some intelligent and patient phase play — enter Jonathan Gray.

Gray, the captain and scrumhalf for Belmont Shore, is our Samurai Pacific Rugby Premiership Player of the Week.

Why? Mostly it's his leadership. Shore has weapons, to be sure, but it's the team's ability to put those weapons into space that makes Gray valuable.

A longtime player for Red Mountain in Arizona, Gray was a select-side all-star even while playing for a D2 team. Tapped by longtime Pacific Coast Grizzlies coach John Tyler as one of those players who could always be depended on, Gray has been exactly that, and more, for longer than he cares to admit.

But it's that experience that has helped lead Belmont Shore to a 2-0 start. Shore looks to keep its unblemished record intact as it hosts undefeated OMBAC this Saturday.
