LAFAYETTE, CO — The Emirates Airline Summer Series returns June 2018, as the United States men’s national team hosts two premiere test matches with Scotland and a nation to be announced later.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Park plays host to the first fixture on June 9 in Denver, while the Men’s Eagles will take on Scotland in Houston on June 16 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
Tickets to each match will be available to the public starting February 20 at usarugby.org/tickets.
“Two fantastic venues with great fan bases,” USA Rugby CEO Dan Payne said. “It’s been some time since the men’s team has played in Denver. We’re excited to welcome international rugby back to the Mile High City.”
Home to the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park is no stranger to rugby. Having recently hosted the USA Rugby Club Sevens Championship in August 2016, the 18,000-plus seat venue was last stormed by the Men’s Eagles during the 2009 Churchill Cup.
The opponent for the June 9 game is yet to be confirmed. That will shake out after the next round of European Qualification for Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.
USA Rugby is working in conjunction with the Denver Sports Commission to bring the event to Colorado, in doing so helping to further the game’s reach to the Mile High community.
As for Houston, the USA has played at BBVA Compass several times before, tying Argentina XV in 2016 and losing close games to Italy, Ireland, and Scotland in 2012, 2013, and 2014, respectively.
Men’s Eagles head coach Gary Gold added: “Scotland is a top team, but our guys are ready for the challenge. We’re excited to see the fans come out in Houston. I understand it’s becoming a great rugby town.”
Tickets to both matches of the 2018 Emirates Airline Summer Series will be available to the public starting February 20 with pre-sales beginning February 13. For more information on purchasing tickets and joining the USA Rugby pre-sale list, visit usarugby.org/tickets.
