USA Lock Nick Civetta Issued Three-Week Ban

USA lock Nick Civetta, who was just named to the Eagles squad for the Americas Rugby Championship, has been handed a three-week suspension for an incident while playing for Doncaster.

Civetta is under contract with the Newcastle Falcons of the Aviva Premiership, but, as often happens with players who are struggling to find consistent playing time with a Premiership team, has been able to get on the field for a Green King IPA Championship (England's Division 2) outfit — in this case the Doncaster Knights.

Civetta was red-carded during his team's 32-30 loss to Yorkshire Carnegie on Dec. 29. He was charged with dangerous charging into a ruck in taking out Yorkshire's Will Homer. During the clearout, Civetta made contact with Homer's head.

After a hearing on Thursday, he was hit with a three-week ban, meaning he can play no rugby games until Jan. 29.

That means Civetta will be back on the field when the Eagles start the ARC, but he misses some important game time beforehand.

Civetta has 10 caps for the USA men's 15s national team, making his debut in a non-cap game against the New Zealand Maori and then getting his first cap in November 2016 against Romania. He has scored three tries as an Eagle.
