UConn, Binghamton Can Prove Much In Challenge Match

The University of Connecticut rugby players take a lot of pride in how far they’ve come as a team. In a year's time, the Huskies followed up a 1-6 record in 2016 with a 6-1 mark this season — and they're not done yet.

UConn takes on Binghamton on Saturday as part of the Liberty Conference Challenge at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT — live all day on FloRugby.

“It’s a great opportunity for us,” said Joe Phillips, a Huskies senior. “I’ve been here for four years, and I am proud to show how far we have come. From the moment we got here, we’ve just been building and developing, and this game is a chance to showcase what we’ve been able to do.”

For Binghamton, this kind of challenge game is nothing new — the Bearcats have played in one before — and as a result they might have a bit of an edge.

Healy: We Want To Prove Ourselves

Binghamton is coming off a nice 41-20 defeat of Rutgers and can also list Colgate, Brockport, Albany, and Syracuse among its victims. Both UConn and Binghamton have one key loss on their records, though.

The Bearcats lost to SUNY Cortland to finish second in the Liberty Conference Empire Division. UConn dropped a decision to Northeastern, leaving the Huskies second in the New England Division.
