CWU Holds On In Silicon Valley Final

Central Washington won the Silicon Valley 7s Fall Collegiate Classic with a 15-14 defeat of Arizona in Sunday's final at Avaya Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.

CWU had taken care of UA in a 15-0 semifinal win earlier in the day at the tournament. That game featured an impressive defensive effort by the Wildcats from Washington over the Wildcats from Arizona.

The loss forced Arizona to have to play San Diego State for the right to get back to the final. Paced by Kyle Rogers, the Wildcats did just that.

The final itself could have been better. Both teams made mistakes, and CWU was especially guilty of trying to bull through contact far too much. Arizona responded with a lot of good tackles that resulted in holding-on penalties against CWU.

But, Central was able to score tree tries on the outside and hold on 15-14.

San Diego State put in a solid weekend to finish in third place, with Ari Flink dangerous out wide and Harrison Barkham having a solid tournament.
