Iowa Central Community College isn't a D1A or a D1AA team. It isn't even a four-year college, but it can play some rugby and proved that fact in a pair of wins last week.

On Wednesday, the Tritons defeated Lindenwood-Belleville, one of the top D1AA teams in the nation, 27-18 at home. Sure the Lynx were not able to put their strongest side on the field, but the victory means a lot to the two-year school from (you guessed it) Central Iowa.

Iowa Central followed up that performance by traveling to Minnesota State-Moorhead and posting a 28-0 shutout win on Saturday.

Head coach Brent Nelson has been working hard to recruit strong rugby players from the Midwest to Iowa Central, which is a varsity program so he's able to attract some talent.

The Tritons have all the trappings of a must-see team on campus, putting in a flagpole at their field so there's a flag to stand at attention to when the anthem plays. They also have a drumline that plays during warmups.

"Without a doubt we've grown exponentially in just a short amount of time as a program," Nelson said. "To beat a team like Belleville is a testament to the hard work the kids and the staff have put in."

Next up for Iowa Central is Lindenwood-St. Charles. The Lions will split their squad to play the St. Louis Bombers men's club and Iowa Central CC. It will be a very tough ask for the Iowans, but they've shown they aren't too intimidated by a name.
