Sevens Bad Luck On Friday The 13th

It’s Friday the 13th - a day when those little moments of bad luck or ill intention pop up. In recognition of that, here’s the Sevens World Series teams that received 13 or more yellow cards last season.

Was it ill luck or evil thoughts that got Fiji to the top? You decide.

You can see the list below, and what jumps out at us is how yellow cards don't always mean trouble.

Fiji gave up the most, and finished 3rd in the World Series. In fact, three of the top four teams in the 2016-17 season, including runaway champs South Africa,

At the same time, Samoa, Russia, Kenya, France, and Japan all had up-and-down seasons, and maybe discipline had something to do with that.

What about the USA? This, in fact, is one of the big reasons for the USA's success last season (finishing 5th overall). The Eagles were awarded only five yellow cards all last season, the least of any core team (a team that plays in all ten tournaments).

Fans will remember when the USA team would sometimes get five yellows in a tournament! All-time the USA has 65, which is ... 13th. You see how it all comes full circle.

The all-time yellow card lead is Fiji, and Fiji also has the most red cards all-time. How many? You guessed it: 13!
