Peter Malcolm Gets Real
USA hooker Peter Maclolm visited the FloSports studio to speak with FloRugby Editor Alex Goff about his rugby career.
USA hooker Peter Maclolm recently visited the FloSports studio and spoke about his rugby career in an interview with FloRugby.
Malcolm chimed in on his experience as an Eagle, what he thinks of the upcoming Major League Rugby launch, and, most emotionally, about what has happened at his alma mater, Wheeling Jesuit.
"This year, rugbywise, for me, has been the best year of all time," said Malcolm, who helped the Austin Huns win a national championship and also helped the USA win the Americas Rugby Championship. "I've never won any championship in any team, down to like church league basketball when I was 8 years old. Now I got two... and then we qualified [for the Rugby World Cup] over Canada."
Malcolm made some pretty stark comparisons between his experiences in PRO Rugby and what he has experienced at the beginning of Major League Rugby.
But Malcolm, who will play for the Collegiate All-Americans against Oxford University in September, saved his strongest words for Wheeling Jesuit. WJU started a varsity program six years ago, but after putting together a playoff D1A program, the administration seemed to sour on the sport. Wheeling Jesuit went through three coaches in as many years and, tellingly, started a football program this year.
"It started to seem pretty evident to me... that they don't care about us as much as they gave the impression six years ago," Malcolm said, adding that WJU "pulled the rug out from under us."
It was clearly a very personal situation for Malcolm, who battled to save the program last year.
