Todd Clever announced his impending retirement from international rugby, and so everyone's favorite man-bun-wearing, bearded surfer dude and all-around snappy dresser enters another chapter in a storied rugby career.

So what has inspired and motivated Clever over these last 20 years? Well, we talked about him as a player... but there's more. Clever said he embraced rugby when he was in high school because he wanted to go on tour to Ireland. His parents said they'd support this pursuit if he took the sport seriously, so that's what he did.

But at the heart of it all, Clever has always been about the experience -- the food, the fun, the people, and the surf.
