Stade Toulousain wants a seventh European crown. Union Bordeaux Begles is defending its title. And Leinster is looking to end its European title drought after falling short in back-to-back Champions Cup finals.

But picking Toulouse to win at astronomical odds isn't exactly groundbreaking analysis. So we're looking beyond the obvious with 10 betting selections, including potential upsets, narrow winning margins and handicap plays.
Odds as of Oct. 13, 2026, and subject to change.
Bordeaux-Bègles vs. Gloucester
Pick: Union Bordeaux to win by 1-7 points (+320)
Union Bordeaux enters the Champions Cup after edging Clermont 23-22 on the road, showing its ability to win tight contests.
Gloucester's unbeaten start ended with a 38-31 loss to Leicester, but the Cherry and Whites remain atop the Gallagher PREM standings. With Gloucester's attacking quality and home advantage at Kingsholm, we're backing the defending European champions to win, but only narrowly.
Sale Sharks vs. Glasgow Warriors
Pick: Sale Sharks moneyline (+225)
Glasgow enters as the favorite after beating Connacht 36-19, but Sale has momentum of its own following a narrow victory over Harlequins.
The Sharks have home advantage and the defensive personnel to challenge the Warriors. Glasgow's recent form makes this a risky selection, but Sale offers an intriguing upset opportunity at +225.
Clermont vs. Leinster
Pick: ASM Clermont moneyline (+400)
Leinster finally secured its first URC victory of the season, beating Cardiff 29-5, but the Irish province still has injury concerns, including captain Caelan Doris.
Clermont nearly defeated Bordeaux last weekend, falling 23-22. That performance, combined with home advantage at Stade Marcel-Michelin, makes the French club an intriguing underdog despite sitting 11th in the Top 14.
Stormers vs. Bristol Bears
Pick: Bristol +17 handicap (-110)
The Bristol Bears' 30-7 defeat to Saracens wasn't encouraging preparation for a trip to Cape Town.
The Stormers, meanwhile, beat the Sharks 39-22 and enter as overwhelming favorites. Bristol's attacking talent gives the Bears a chance to remain competitive, but this selection requires a significant improvement from their latest performance.
Connacht vs. Saracens
Pick: Saracens F.C. to win by 1-7 points (+250)
Saracens arrives in Galway after dismantling Bristol 30-7, while Connacht suffered a 36-19 defeat against Glasgow.
The English club's defensive performance makes it the stronger selection, but Connacht's home advantage could prevent a comfortable victory. We're backing Saracens to win a close contest rather than run away with it.
La Rochelle vs. Lions
Pick: Lions +14 handicap (-110)
The Lions make their Champions Cup debut after suffering a 57-15 defeat to the Bulls. That's hardly ideal preparation for visiting two-time European champion La Rochelle.
The French club beat Lyon 28-16 last weekend and deserves its heavy favoritism. The Lions will need a substantial defensive improvement to stay within the handicap.
Munster vs. Racing 92
Pick: Racing 92 +10 handicap (-110)
Neither club enters European competition following a victory.
Munster drew 26-26 with Ulster, while Racing suffered a 29-15 defeat against Toulon.
Munster's injury concerns create additional uncertainty, although Racing's own recent performance offers little reassurance. We're backing the French visitors to keep the margin competitive rather than pull off an outright upset.
Bath vs. Montpellier
Pick: Montpellier +8 handicap (+100)
Bath conceded an astonishing 71 points against Northampton, while Montpellier suffered a 30-22 defeat to Stade Français.
Neither defense inspires much confidence heading into Europe. Montpellier enters as the reigning Challenge Cup champion and could exploit Bath's defensive vulnerabilities. We're backing the French visitors to stay within eight points at The Rec.
Pau vs. Leicester Tigers
Pick: Leicester +9 handicap (-110)
Leicester enters European competition after handing Gloucester its first PREM defeat, winning 38-31.
Pau is also in excellent position, sitting second in the Top 14 after beating Castres 35-26.
With both clubs coming off victories, this could be one of Round 1's most competitive fixtures. We're backing Leicester to stay within nine points on the road.
Northampton Saints vs. Cardiff
Pick: Northampton -22 handicap (-110)
Northampton's latest attacking performance was ridiculous.
The Saints scored 11 tries in a 71-48 victory over Bath, with Ollie Sleightholme recording a hat trick.
Cardiff, meanwhile, managed just five points in its defeat to Leinster. Northampton's attacking momentum makes the Saints an appealing selection to cover a substantial handicap at Franklin's Gardens.
