How Does The Investec Champions Cup Format Work?
Each Champions Cup club plays four pool-stage matches against four different opponents before 16 teams advance to the knockout stage.
Clubs do not play opponents from their own domestic league during the pool stage.
The qualification rules also have changed for 2026-27. The top three clubs in each of the four pools automatically qualify for the Round of 16, accounting for 12 of the 16 knockout spots.
The final four places go to the four remaining clubs with the most match points across all four pools, regardless of where they finish within their individual pool.
From there, the competition becomes a single-elimination tournament with the Round of 16, quarterfinals and semifinals determining the two finalists.
