3 Reasons To Watch Section Paloise Rugby During The 2026-27 Top 14 Season

Section Paloise enters 2026-27 with expectations transformed by a club-best fourth-place Top 14 finish. Pau went 17-9 with 78 points and returned to the playoffs, where Racing 92 ended its season 33-31.

The breakthrough was powered by an attack that scored 817 points and 98 tries, plus exceptional home form at Stade du Hameau.

Now comes the compelling part: discovering whether Pau can sustain that progress while its young talent develops and a reinforced forward group addresses some of last season's vulnerabilities.

Can Section Paloise Make The Top 14 Playoffs The New Standard?

Pau's rise from eighth in 2024-25 to fourth last season changed the conversation.

The core remains largely intact, and Sébastien Piqueronies remains in charge. Pau also added depth without fundamentally changing the team that produced its breakthrough.

Another top-six challenge would show that 2025-26 was not simply an exceptional season. The greater intrigue is whether Section Paloise can go further after losing its playoff opener by only two points.

Pau's Explosive Young Attack Is Worth Watching

Few statistics explain Pau's appeal better than 98 tries.

Section Paloise plays expansive, attack-oriented rugby featuring quick ball, counterattacks and aggressive support lines. Emilien Gailleton scored 11 tries in 26 games last season, while Théo Attissogbe, Fabien Brau-Boirie and Grégory Arfeuil are among the young backs central to Pau's attacking identity.

There is more youth behind them. Joachim Senga Kouo and Rémi Couty have joined a development pipeline that gives Pau another potential source of internal improvement.

A Reinforced Pau Pack Could Raise The Club's Ceiling

Pau could score last season. The larger question was whether its forwards could consistently provide the platform required against the Top 14's strongest opposition.

Forward power and the set piece were vulnerabilities, and Pau responded by adding Baptiste Pesenti, Bastien Vergnes-Taillefer and Santiago Grondona.

If those reinforcements make Pau more reliable in the scrum, lineout and physical exchanges, Section Paloise could become considerably harder to beat when matches tighten. Combine that with a Stade du Hameau advantage that produced 13 of Pau's 17 victories last season, and there is a credible foundation for another playoff push.
