The Gallagher PREM returns on Sept. 25 with no shortage of intrigue as England's top flight begins a season that could reshape the competition while serving as one of the final proving grounds before the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Defending champion Northampton Saints will begin the defense of its title against a dramatically rebuilt Newcastle Red Bulls squad, while several clubs enter the campaign under new leadership or with significantly altered rosters.

The regular season stretches across 18 rounds before culminating with the playoffs in June 2027, featuring rivalry weekends, holiday fixtures, marquee stadium events and another championship match at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.

Northampton enters the new campaign chasing a remarkable third Gallagher PREM title in four seasons, but the champions begin life without longtime captain and England international George Furbank, who departed during the summer transfer window to join Harlequins.

Phil Dowson still returns one of the league's deepest squads, but replacing one of English rugby's premier fullbacks will be among the defining storylines of the season. Saints also know every match carries additional significance with national team coaches evaluating players ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup, making every weekend an opportunity for international hopefuls to strengthen their cases.

Elsewhere, change has arrived across the league. Saracens F.C. begin a new era with Brendan Venter taking over as director of rugby following the legendary tenure of Mark McCall, whose success transformed the North London club into one of Europe's dominant professional teams.

Harlequin F.C. also enter a new chapter after appointing Robbie Deans as Performance Director. The former Wallabies head coach and longtime All Blacks assistant brings one of rugby's most decorated coaching résumés, having guided the Crusaders to five Super Rugby titles before winning five Japan Rugby League championships with the Saitama Wild Knights.

Newcastle Red Bulls may be the league's biggest wildcard after overhauling their roster with approximately 30 new signings, highlighted by former Ulster and South Africa Sevens standout Werner Kok, as the club looks to climb from the bottom of last season's table.

The fixture list offers plenty for supporters to anticipate beyond the championship race. Derby Weekend returns in October, while the festive period delivers three consecutive rounds across Christmas and New Year's featuring some of the league's biggest rivalries.

Big Game 18 shifts to Monday for the first time when Harlequins host Northampton Saints at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, before the schedule transitions into a spring run-in that will determine the playoff field. By the time the Gallagher PREM champion is crowned in June, many of the league's biggest stars will immediately turn their attention toward the 2027 Rugby World Cup, making this season one of the most significant in recent memory.

Round 8 features traditional festive clashes, including Bath Rugby versus Leicester Tigers, Sale Sharks against Gloucester Rugby and Exeter Chiefs hosting Saracens before the spotlight turns to Monday, Dec. 28. For the first time, Harlequins' famous Big Game moves to a Monday evening as the champions, Northampton Saints, visit Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.

Just days later, Round 9 opens the new year with another full slate highlighted by Saracens against Bath Rugby, Leicester Tigers versus Exeter Chiefs and Northampton Saints hosting Sale Sharks.
