Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers renew one of English rugby’s fiercest rivalries on Friday night with a place in the Gallagher PREM Rugby Final at Allianz Stadium on the line.
The East Midlands derby rarely needs additional motivation, but the stakes could not be higher as two of the competition’s most successful clubs battle for a chance to play for the title.

Saints enter the semifinal as the regular-season pace setters after a record-breaking campaign that saw them score more tries than any team in Premiership history. Despite resting several players during a final-round defeat to Harlequins, Northampton still secured top spot and home advantage throughout the playoffs. Director of rugby Phil Dowson has responded by making 11 changes, bringing back many of his frontline stars for the club’s biggest match of the season.
A major milestone also awaits Emmanuel Iyogun, who will make his 100th appearance for Northampton. He joins a powerful pack featuring Alex Coles, Henry Pollock and Tom Pearson, while the exciting backline includes Fin Smith, Tommy Freeman and George Furbank.
Saints will once again rely on the attacking identity that produced a league-record 104 tries during the regular season.
Leicester arrive after narrowly missing out on second place and remain one of the most dangerous and disciplined teams in the competition. Geoff Parling’s side welcomes back Freddie Steward and Billy Searle, while Ollie Chessum, Tommy Reffell and Jack van Poortvliet headline a squad built around territorial pressure and set-piece excellence.
The Tigers dominated the lineout in the previous meeting between the sides and will look to repeat that formula as they seek a return to the PREM final.
