Andy Farrell is coming to America, Irish Rugby fans.
The Irish Rugby Football Union made it official June 5, signing Farrell to a contract extension that will keep him in charge of Ireland through the 2031 Rugby World Cup in the United States.

Farrell's tenure has seen Ireland emerge as one of the world's premier rugby nations. Since taking over in 2019, Ireland has defeated traditional powers South Africa and New Zealand, won multiple Six Nations titles, captured a Grand Slam and risen to No. 1 in the World Rugby rankings.
But his tenure is not without disappointment. Ireland's long-standing World Cup quarterfinal curse remains intact after a heartbreaking exit in 2023. Despite beating eventual champion South Africa during pool play and entering the tournament among the favorites, Ireland fell 28-24 to New Zealand in one of the most memorable matches of the competition.
The IRFU is betting that Farrell remains the right man to finally push Ireland beyond that barrier.

The new deal extends Farrell's stay beyond the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia and through the conclusion of the 2031 tournament, which will be staged in the United States. It also makes Farrell the longest-serving head coach in the history of the Ireland men's national team.
"We are delighted to secure Andy through to 2031," IRFU Chief Executive Kevin Potts said in a statement released by Irish Rugby. "He is a truly world-class coach and leader, and has transformed the Ireland men's national team through his vision, professionalism and ability to foster a high-performance environment."
An Easy Decision By Andy Farrell To Return To Ireland Rugby
Farrell said the decision to remain with Ireland was an easy one.
"I am incredibly proud to continue the journey with Irish Rugby through to 2031," Farrell told Irish Rugby. "The connection with the players, staff, supporters and everyone involved in the game in Ireland is pretty special. I believe there is still so much more we can achieve together."
The extension comes after months of speculation regarding Farrell's future. According to reporting from The Guardian, Farrell's name had been linked with a potential return to England after the 2027 Rugby World Cup. By agreeing to remain with Ireland through 2031, those rumors appear to have been put to rest.
Farrell's resume with Ireland is among the strongest in international rugby. He guided Ireland to a historic series victory over New Zealand in 2022, led the team to the 2023 Six Nations Grand Slam and followed that with another championship-winning campaign in 2024. He also coached the British & Irish Lions to a series victory in Australia in 2025.
The extension arrives at a pivotal time for Irish rugby. Several veteran stars remain key contributors, but a new generation of talent is beginning to emerge. Ireland used 35 players during the 2026 Six Nations campaign while still securing the Triple Crown and finishing second in the championship.
That blend of continuity and transition appears to be exactly what the IRFU wanted when it committed to Farrell for another five years.
"The best is yet to come," Farrell said in comments published by Irish Rugby.
If Ireland is finally going to break through at a Rugby World Cup, the journey now officially belongs to Farrell through Australia in 2027 and, perhaps fittingly, all the way to America in 2031.
