As the United Rugby Championship playoffs continue, the league has recognized some of the standout performers who helped shape the 2025-26 campaign.
Five players were honored with individual awards following the conclusion of the regular season, highlighting excellence in kicking, defense, durability, try scoring and attacking creativity. Fidelity SecureDrive Lions fly-half Chris Smith, Dragons RFC lock Ben Carter, Lions fullback Quan Horn, DHL Stormers No. 8 Evan Roos and Ospreys playmaker Jack Walsh all added their names to the URC record books.

The awards reflect the diverse ways players can impact a season. Some were recognized for consistency over 18 rounds, while others were rewarded for elite production in specific areas of the game.

Chris Smith Claims Golden Boot Again
The Gilbert Golden Boot Award went to Lions fly-half Chris Smith, who finished the regular season as the league's most productive goal kicker.
Smith accumulated 149 kicking points through 49 conversions and 17 penalties, finishing ahead of Stormers fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
The award is Smith's second Golden Boot, having also won the honor in 2024 while playing for the Vodacom Bulls.
Smith credited former Springboks great Morne Steyn, now a kicking coach with the Lions, for helping him refine his craft.
Ben Carter's Defensive Excellence Recognized
Dragons RFC lock Ben Carter was named the IPVanish Tackle Machine Award winner after posting a remarkable 97.6% tackle success rate among players who completed at least 150 tackles during the regular season.
The award caps a strong campaign for the Wales international, who helped guide the Dragons to a significantly improved season while establishing himself as a key player for both club and country.
Carter's achievement is particularly notable considering the injury setbacks he overcame over the past two years.
Quan Horn Never Left The Field
Few players were more reliable than Lions fullback Quan Horn.
Horn captured the Ironman Award after playing all 1,440 available minutes during the regular season, becoming the only player in the league not to miss a single minute.
The honor marks the second Ironman Award of his career after previously winning it in 2023.
His durability played a major role in helping the Lions secure a playoff berth and win the South African Shield.
Evan Roos Finishes On Top
Stormers No. 8 Evan Roos finished the regular season as the URC's leading try scorer and was rewarded with the OFX Top Try Scorer Award.
Roos crossed the try line 12 times during league play, finishing ahead of Ulster winger Zac Ward and Ulster teammate Werner Kok.
The Springbok scored against some of the competition's top teams and added further tries in the Investec Champions Cup and for the Barbarians, giving him 15 tries across all competitions.
His performances helped establish him as one of the most dangerous attacking forwards in the competition.
Walsh Signs Off With Playmaker Award
Jack Walsh's final season with the Ospreys ended with individual recognition.
The versatile back captured the Playmaker Award before departing for French club Montauban. The honor is based on attacking metrics including try assists, defenders beaten and successful offloads.
Since joining the Ospreys from Exeter in 2022, Walsh has developed into one of the league's most creative attacking threats.
His departure leaves a significant void for the Welsh region, but he leaves with one of the league's most prestigious individual honors.
Celebrating The Season's Best
Individual awards never tell the entire story of a season, but they do highlight the players who consistently excelled over nine months of competition.
Smith's accuracy, Carter's defensive reliability, Horn's durability, Roos' finishing ability and Walsh's creativity each helped define the 2025-26 URC campaign.
With the playoffs still ongoing, the focus now shifts back to team success. But for these five players, the regular season will always include a place in the URC awards history books.
