One of the greatest venues in rugby could host the United Rugby Championship Gran Final.
The Glasgow Warriors have secured home-field advantage throughout the United Rugby Championship Playoffs. And after dispatching Connacht in the quarterfinals, the URC announced that the remaining Glasgow matches will be played in Edinburgh.
Because Edinburgh is home to Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, the home grounds for the Scottish national team.
The grandness of Murrayfield would be a fitting site for the Grand Final if the Warriors reached the championship match, but it's not the main reason Glasgow will play a few meters away from it's rival Edinburgh Rugby's home grounds. Scotstoun, their home grounds, unavailable due to preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Glasgow earned the top seed for the Playoffs after finishing first in the league standings, guaranteeing home advantage through the remainder of the competition. Should the defending champions reach the semifinals or the Grand Final, those fixtures will now be staged at Scotland’s national stadium.
Scottish Rugby worked with Glasgow Warriors, the URC and other key stakeholders to ensure Murrayfield would be available on June 20 should the Warriors advance to the championship match.
The move comes as Scotstoun, one of the toughest venues to play in club rugby, enters a period of redevelopment and event preparation ahead of the Commonwealth Games, leaving Glasgow without access to its traditional home ground during the closing weeks of the URC season.
No other venue in Scotland that met the league’s hosting requirements was available for the Play-Off period, making Murrayfield the preferred alternative.
Murrayfield Stadium Has Hosted Huge Club Matches Before
The stadium is no stranger to major URC occasions. Scottish Gas Murrayfield previously hosted the league final a decade ago when Connacht captured the first major professional title in the province’s history by defeating Leinster in the 2016 PRO12 Final.
For Glasgow, the venue change presents an opportunity to welcome a larger crowd as the club pursues a second URC title in three years. Murrayfield has a significantly greater capacity than Scotstoun and has regularly hosted marquee rugby fixtures, including international matches and domestic finals.
While the Warriors will be away from their traditional home, they retain the advantage earned through their regular-season performance. Glasgow finished ahead of Leinster, DHL Stormers and Vodacom Bulls in the final standings, ensuring any semifinal or final appearance would be played on Scottish soil.
The URC said details regarding other potential Grand Final venues will be confirmed once the semifinal matchups are finalized. Any venue hosting the championship match will depend on which teams remain in contention and their final ranking from the regular season.
For now, Glasgow’s path to another title is clear. If the Warriors continue winning, the road to the URC trophy will run through Edinburgh.
