Cardiff Rugby spent the past few seasons hovering around the playoff line in the United Rugby Championship, but this year the club finally broke through.
After finishing sixth with 55 points and 11 wins, Cardiff reached the URC playoffs for the first time since the old Celtic League era.
A major reason why? Cardiff Arms Park became difficult again for visiting teams.

The defining moment came in Round 18, when Cardiff beat the DHL Stormers 22-16 to officially clinch their postseason place. It was one of the biggest wins at the Arms Park in years and proof that Cardiff’s culture shift under Corniel van Zyl had become real.
Dan Thomas believes the attitude inside the squad changed everything.
“We love throwing the ball around, plus we will never give up,” Thomas said. “It’s a special group and I hope we go forward and do special things.”
That mentality showed throughout the run-in. Cardiff picked up derby wins over the Scarlets and Ospreys, then followed it by beating the Stormers in a playoff-clinching atmosphere.
The numbers back up the turnaround. Cardiff scored 50 league points and finished ahead of Ulster, Connacht and the Lions in the standings despite dealing with injuries throughout the year. Josh Adams scored seven tries, while Callum Sheedy led the club with 67 points.
Now comes the ultimate test: a quarterfinal rematch in Cape Town against the Stormers.
History is against them. Every previous URC quarterfinal involving the Stormers has been won by the home side.
But Cardiff already proved they can beat this team once.
And after finally turning Arms Park back into a meaningful home-field advantage, Cardiff suddenly looks like a club capable of changing far more than just its playoff status.
