Highlanders Super Rugby Pacific 2026 Season Preview & Schedule

Here's a Highlanders Super Rugby Pacific 2026 preview with full schedule, 2025 results and team overview.

Jan 26, 2026 by Joe Harrington
Highlights: Waratahs vs Highlanders 2025

The Highlanders enter the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season looking to reset after a difficult 2025 campaign that left little margin for error.

A 3-11 record saw the Dunedin-based side finish 11th in the standings, underscoring the challenges of maintaining consistency across a full Super Rugby schedule.

That result reflected a season spent chasing stability, rather than momentum.

While the Highlanders showed flashes of competitiveness, they struggled to convert performances into results often enough to move out of the bottom portion of the table. The year ultimately became one of evaluation as much as outcome.

As preparations turn toward 2026, the Highlanders do so with continuity in leadership and renewed focus on development. Head coach Jamie Joseph remains in charge, with co-captains Timoci Tavatavanawai and Hugh Renton leading a side based at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Entering the new season, the Highlanders aim to translate growth and investment into tangible progress within Super Rugby Pacific.
