The Queensland Reds enter the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season at a moment of transition, with the year set to be head coach Les Kiss’ final campaign before he departs to take over the Wallabies.

That reality places added weight on every result, as the Reds attempt to push forward under a coach guiding the program through its final chapter of continuity.

Kiss also wants to build personal momentum as he prepares to take over an improving Australian national team.

That urgency follows a solid 2025 season in which the Reds finished fifth with an 8-6 record and qualified for the finals.

While they remained firmly in the playoff picture across the 14-match schedule, the campaign ultimately ended without a deep postseason run, leaving room for both belief and unfinished business entering the new year.

As the Reds move into 2026, Kiss’s impending exit becomes the defining backdrop.

With co-captains Liam Wright and Tate McDermott leading the side at Suncorp Stadium, the Reds begin the season balancing immediate competitiveness with the knowledge that this group represents the closing phase of a coaching era before national duties take precedence.
