Glasgow Warriors climbed to first in the BKT URC after beating Zebre as the Stormers’ unbeaten league run ended in a dramatic weekend of results.

Glasgow Warriors moved to the top of the United Rugby Championship standings after capitalizing on the first league defeat of the season for the DHL Stormers, reshuffling the table at the midway point of the campaign.
Franco Smith’s side climbed into first place with a 26-21 bonus-point victory away to Zebre Parma. Hooker Gregor Hiddlestone scored two of Glasgow’s four tries in a physical contest that featured four yellow cards, three shown to the home side.

Glasgow captain Kyle Steyn credited the forward pack for setting the platform in difficult conditions.
“It was a tough match,” Steyn said. “I said to the boys in the back line we owe the forwards a few beers for that one. Credit to our pack for the way they just stuck in it. The mauls, the defence was awesome. That won us the game.”
Smith echoed that assessment, praising both teams after a scrappy encounter.
“It’s always excellent to win here,” Smith said. “It wasn’t pretty. Zebre put up a big fight. They never went away. Compliments to them and their coaching group. I think there’s something special happening there.”
Earlier in the day, the Stormers’ unbeaten league run ended with a 30-19 home loss to the Hollywoodbets Sharks in front of a crowd of 52,087 in Cape Town. Sharks fullback Aphelele Fassi was named Player of the Match, while center Andre Esterhuizen sealed a bonus point with his side’s fourth try seven minutes from time.
Leinster Rugby Wins 10th Straight
Leinster Rugby climbed to third in the table after extending their winning streak to 10 matches in all competitions with a 34-23 victory over Connacht Rugby in Galway. A sellout crowd of 12,481 marked the opening of the new Clan Stand at Dexcom Stadium, but the visitors claimed maximum points. Center Charlie Tector capped a Player of the Match performance with one of Leinster’s four tries.
Cardiff Rugby sit level on points with Leinster in fourth place following a hard-fought 17-8 win over Benetton Rugby at Arms Park. Ioan Lloyd landed a late penalty from the touchline to deny the visitors a losing bonus point, while Josh McNally earned Player of the Match honors.
Ulster Rugby Stunned By Scarlets
Saturday also saw the Scarlets claim a dramatic 27-22 victory over Ulster Rugby. Wing Ellis Mee scored the match-winning try in the final play, sparking celebrations after Scarlets had started the round bottom of the table.
Friday night’s three fixtures were played in challenging conditions amid wind and rain from Storm Ingrid. At Hive Stadium, the Vodacom Bulls rallied from a 17-6 halftime deficit to defeat Edinburgh Rugby 19-17, with replacement Marco van Staden scoring the decisive try.
“We are very pleased with the character of the players,” Bulls coach Johan Ackermann said. “The first 40 wasn’t pretty, but everybody played really well in the second half.”
Munster Rugby Rallies After Falling Behind 20-7
In Cork, Munster Rugby overturned a 20-7 deficit to edge Dragons RFC 22-20, moving into fifth place. No. 8 Gavin Coombes scored twice off the bench, while fly-half Tony Butler kicked the winning penalty five minutes from time. Debutant flanker Sean Edogbo earned Player of the Match honors.
“It’s been a very special week,” Edogbo said. “The crowd is always special here. They really get behind us and I’m glad we could give them something to cheer about.”
The Ospreys and the Lions shared the points in a 24-24 draw at Brewery Field, with both teams scoring four tries apiece. The result leaves the two sides occupying the final playoff positions as the table currently stands.
On To Round 11 For The URC
Round 11 will be the final league action before a break for the Guinness Six Nations. Glasgow host fifth-placed Munster, while the Stormers face a return clash with the Sharks in Durban. Other fixtures include Lions vs. Bulls, Ulster vs. Cardiff, Benetton vs. Scarlets, Zebre vs. Connacht and Leinster vs. Edinburgh.
