Munster enters Round 4 needing a result to stay clear of elimination danger. The Irish province has split its home and away results so far, losing on the road to Bath Rugby in Round 1 and to Toulon in Round 3, while earning a critical home win over Gloucester in Round 2.
Sitting on six match points and owning the tiebreaker over Gloucester, Munster knows a home victory would keep multiple qualification paths open, including a possible push toward the No. 2 seed if Toulon slips elsewhere. A loss, however, could leave Munster vulnerable to missing the Round of 16 altogether.
Castres arrives at 1-0-2 in pool play with an uneven but dangerous profile. The Top 14 side rebounded from an opening loss by crushing Edinburgh 33-0 in Round 2, before falling 43-20 at home to Bath in Round 3.
With Pool 2 so tightly compressed, Castres still has a path into the playoffs, particularly with a bonus-point win. The margins are so slim that a single result elsewhere could dramatically reshape the standings, making Saturday’s contest one of the most consequential matches of the round.
