New Year’s weekend brings massive Top 14 clashes. From Toulouse vs. Perpignan to Stade Rochelais vs. Toulon, here are three matches to watch Jan. 3-4.

Toulouse has reclaimed the throne just in time for the start of 2026.

New Year’s weekend brings fierce matchups that will set the tone for the year ahead in rugby.
Perpignan vs. Toulouse—competitors from opposite ends of the table—kicks off the slate Jan. 3 at 8:30 a.m. ET. Stade Rochelais vs. Toulon will close out the weekend Jan. 4 at 3:05 p.m. ET.
Here are three matches this New Year’s weekend that you can’t miss:
Stade Français vs. Castres - Jan. 3 at 10:35 a.m. ET
Stade Français hosts Castres at Stade Jean Bouin this Saturday.
In their last five meetings, Castres has taken three victories, including a 29-24 win in October 2025.
Stade Français holds the higher Top 14 standing at No. 4, compared to Castres at No. 8. However, Castres has won three of its last five matches—one more than Stade Français.
Both teams have plenty going for them, and this matchup will put each to the test.
Union Bordeaux-Bègles vs. Racing 92 - Jan. 3 at 3 p.m. ET
Bordeaux hosts Racing 92 at Stade Chaban-Delmas.
After Bordeaux’s 34-19 loss to Clermont last week, UBB will be eager to return to its home pitch.
Racing, meanwhile, snapped a two-game draw streak with a 61-16 win over Montauban and will look to carry that momentum into the new year.
Racing has won the last two meetings with Bordeaux, though Bordeaux won the three prior.
With two strong sides across other competitions and Top 14 play, this one could go either way.
Stade Rochelais vs. Toulon - Jan. 4 at 3:05 p.m. ET
La Rochelle has won three of its past five matches against Toulon, though Toulon posted a higher average points total over that stretch (29-24).
This matchup has become a must-watch in recent years, with momentum often flip-flopping, and physicality on full display.
The teams last met in November, when Toulon earned a 39-14 win, striking early and never letting up. Now, La Rochelle hopes to prove that two months is plenty of time to completely change the script.
