Rugby Round-Up: Champions Cup Preview

Stade Toulousain came to make a statement. Even from Round 1, they hungry for that Champions Cup win.

Toulouse overwhelmed the Hollywoodbets Sharks 56-19 at Stade Ernest-Wallon on Dec. 7, seizing control from the opening minutes and never loosening their grip. 

Ange Capuozzo set the tone with an early try, and Toulouse’s forward power delivered two more through Julien Marchand before Kalvin Gourgues capped a four-try blitz inside 23 minutes. The Sharks briefly steadied when Nick Hatton crossed, but Toulouse carried a 28-5 lead into halftime.

Ross Braude’s try early in the second half gave the Sharks life, yet Toulouse answered immediately. Capuozzo completed a hat trick—highlighted by a brilliant kick-ahead finish—while Mathis Castro-Ferreira added another from a dominant maul. Antoine Dupont’s return off the bench energized the crowd, even as he eased back into action.

A late Sharks try slowed the surge, but Teddy Thomas sealed Toulouse’s eighth and final score. 

Clinical, relentless and creative, Toulouse dictated the match from start to finish.
