Investec Champions Cup Countdown: Why The DHL Stormers Can Win It All
Investec Champions Cup Countdown: Why The DHL Stormers Can Win It All
The Investec Champions Cup is two days away. FloRugby is making a case for each team to win it all. That includes Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu & the Stormers.

The 2025-2026 Investec Champions Cup begins Dec. 5, and we're just two days away from the Sale Sharks hosting the Glasgow Warriors at 3 p.m. ET at CorpAcq Stadium.
The Investec Champions Cup will determine the best team in Europe (and South Africa), as every contender aims to take the title from defending champion Union Bordeaux-Bègles of the Top 14.

But like in the film "The Highlander," there can only be one winner.
Every club will enter the competition believing it can lift the trophy on May 23, 2026, at San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain.
And that includes DHL Stormers of the United Rugby Championship.
Here are three reasons why the DHL Stormers can win the 2025-2026 Investec Champions Cup:
The DHL Stormers Are The Best Club Team In The World… I Think
The Stormers were tied with Munster at the top of the URC table before their match against Munster on Nov. 27, but as of Nov. 16, the Stormers were 5-0-0 with a dominant 35-0 win over Leinster to boot. And that’s without most of their Springboks.
Another reason to feel good about the Stormers’ chances is that coach John Dobson is going to take the Champions Cup seriously, admitting that all the South African clubs need to do a better job of justifying being in this tournament.
If they do, the Stormers become one of the four or five clubs in the field of 24 with the best chances to win it all.
After a relatively down 2024-2025 season, the Stormers haven’t looked this good since winning the URC in 2022.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Is The Best Player In The World… Pending
At just 23, it’s hard to say any player has been better than Feinberg-Mngomezulu in 2025.
His breakout season for the Springboks was a big reason why South Africa went from “suspect” to the “no-doubt 2027 Rugby World Cup favorite.”
And he plays his club rugby with the Stormers.
He was ranked No. 40 in the FloRugby Top 100 Players list but will be among the biggest climbers in 2026 and could jump 35-plus spots in the rankings.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu joins Damian Willemse — the No. 23–ranked player in the world — to give the Stormers one of the most explosive attacks in the sport.
Throw in experienced players like Evan Roos, Neethling Fouché and Jean-Luc du Plessis, and the Stormers are loaded.
Cape Town, South Africa: Best City In The World For Tourists?
The New York Times once called Cape Town, South Africa, the best city for tourists in the world, so for players from La Rochelle and the Leicester Tigers who must travel to the Cape, they could lose track of time exploring the city — which is on the coast of South Africa and surrounded by Table Mountain National Park-- and not be focused on the match.
OK, that's probably not going to happen, but it's time for the South Africa clubs to embrace the advantage they have in PREM and Top 14 teams coming south.
Traveling to South Africa in December and January can be a slog for European teams, but especially for PREM and Top 14 teams that aren't used it.
For starters, it’s summer in South Africa, so heat and weather conditions can play a factor.
Now, not every game is going to be played in Cape Town on the Western Cape.
The first DHL Stormers home pool game is at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on the Eastern Cape. Formerly known as Port Elizabeth, Gqeberha is the largest city on the Eastern Cape.
