3 Things To Know: Italy vs. South Africa | Autumn Nations Series 2025
Italy hosts South Africa in the 2025 Autumn Nations Series. Here are three storylines and what to expect after the Azzuri beat the Wallabies last week.

The South Africa Springboks take their well-oiled machine on the road to Turin to face an Italy squad that just sent the Wallabies further on their path of despair less than one month before the 2027 Rugby World Cup draw.
The Springboks started the month with an easy win over Japan in Wembley Stadium, before surging to a second half blowout over the France men's team last weekend.
They scored 12 points and overtook Les Bleus with just 14 men, holding the hosts to three points in the latter 40 minutes at Stade de France. Final score: 26-17.

The Azzuri are as ready as they have ever been for a challenge of this magnitude, though.
"Italy has built their team all around," said Springboks back Damian Willemse.
The hosts will take the pitch with wind in their sails and not nearly as much to lose as the visiting squad.
Here are three storylines and what to expect from Italy vs. South Africa in the Autumn Nations Series 2025 on Saturday, Nov. 15:
Three Things To Know: Italy vs. South Africa | Autumn Nations Series 2025
1. History Of Italy vs. South Africa
The Springboks have statistics in their favor for this one, winning 18 of their 19 meetings, with Italy's only win coming from a 20-18 Autumn Internationals game almost nine years ago, on November 19, 2016.
They last played in July 2025, during which, South Africa handed the visiting Azzuri a 45-0 shutout at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. It was during the summer internationals.
2. Italy's Point To Prove
After its win against Australia last weekend, and with its desire to avenge the loss to the Springboks in July, Italy has a chance to prove a point this weekend.
Things are a bit different this time, than earlier this year, with South Africa going into the lions den to face the nations' favorites.
In an interview earlier this week, Springboks' Ethan Hooker said Italy will be a great challenge for them after beating the Wallabies squad.
"They'll take huge confidence from last week because the Wallabies are a quality team," he said. "They'll definitely take the things they learned from that game and try to use it against us as well."
3. Springboks Moving On From France
In a rematch of the 2023 Rugby World Cup quarterfinal, France was unable to perform under the pressure and secure a win over the raging Springboks.
What started as a thrilling back-and-forth contest quickly got out of hand after the teams returned from the locker rooms.
Two Damian Penaud tries were matched by penalty kicks, and a solo effort by Cobus Reinach resulted in a try to leave them separated by just one point at the half.
A red card for Lood de Jager near the end of the first half didn't startle South Africa, which held its composure and pressured the game into its own favor.
A yellow card for Louis Bielle-Biarrey opened a chance for Springboks to take the lead, which they did. They extended it even further shortly after he returned.
Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu continued his ascent to glory in another fantastic performance.
Time will tell what the South Africa squad learned from the battle between the two rugby goliaths and how they can apply that experience heading into the final rounds—predicted to be much easier—of the Autumn Nations series.
