27 U.S. Cities In Running To Host 2031 Rugby World Cup
United by Rugby Summit reveals 27 U.S. cities that are in contention to host the 2031 Men’s Rugby World Cup, the tournament’s first time in the Americas.
Rugby’s biggest stage is heading to the United States, as the 2031 Men’s Rugby World Cup makes its historic debut in the Americas.
A total of 27 cities and regions have been proposed as potential hosts and celebration hubs, including:
Arizona, Atlanta, Baltimore, Birmingham, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles region, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, St. Louis, Vancouver and Washington, D.C.

The United by Rugby Summit announced the shortlist in Chicago ahead of the Ireland vs. New Zealand match at Soldier Field.
That match alone shows how far the United States has come in the global rugby conversation.
In recent years, the country has worked to become a true player in the sport by hosting marquee matchups and expanding rugby coverage.
Bringing the World Cup to the States undoubtedly will accelerate that momentum.
The economic impact is another major factor.
During the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, the event generated 5,200 jobs, €871 million in net economic input and €1.8 billion in total spending, according to World Rugby.
The ideal host city will combine a vibrant metropolitan scene with a passionate, growing rugby community.
By the end of 2026, the list of finalists will be narrowed to those advancing to the Candidate Phase.
