Bayonne Dominates Montauban 49-7 | Top 14 Club Of The Week
Bayonne climbed to No. 4 on the Top 14 rugby table after a commanding 49-7 win over Montauban, moving up ahead of Champions Cup play.
Bayonne earned its greatest win margin of the season after topping Montauban 49-7 in Round 9.
The victory catapulted Bayonne from No. 6 to No. 4 on the Top 14 table.
Bayonne has dropped only three matches this season, the same number as the top three teams: Toulouse, Pau and Bordeaux-Bègles.
Bayonne's first loss came as a 48-17 defeat to Castres in Round 3. However, Bayonne went on to hand Toulon and Toulouse—now No. 1—defeats in the two following weeks. That set a standard of coming back even stronger after a stumble.

The past two weeks were no different.
Bayonne entered the match against Montauban looking to rebound from its 41-12 loss to Bordeaux the week before.
Lucas Martin banked the first try just two minutes into the Montauban faceoff.
Bayonne took the early momentum and ran with it, maintaining the lead for the entire game.
Along with finding its offensive rhythm, Bayonne made 108 tackles compared to Montauban’s 91.
By the 74th minute, Bayonne had posted 49 unanswered points. Despite a last-minute try and conversion by its opponent, Bayonne secured the 49-7 victory.
Racing 92 and Lyon are Bayonne’s final two Top 14 opponents before moving into Champions Cup group-stage play.
Based on standings alone, Bayonne should be able to finish Top 14 play on a high before facing its European Rugby opponents.
The first group-stage match is against the URC’s top dog, the DHL Stormers. Bayonne will need all its strength to take on such a powerful opponent.
