Before we get into who sits where and who should be offended, let’s be clear about what this list actually is.

These are not standings. This is not the URC table, the Premiership table or the Top 14 table just copied and stitched together.

This is our global form index. Who would scare you most on neutral turf right now?

We feed every result from the major club leagues into a single model and ask it to judge teams by whom they beat, how they beat them and where they did it.

Wins against heavyweights matter more than wins against soft opposition. Blowing a contender off the park matters more than edging someone you should have handled.

Doing it away from home matters more than doing it in front of your own crowd. And consistency matters: stacking wins buys you credibility; folding on contact costs you.

Under the hood, we use an Elo-style engine as the spine, then layer on context so it reflects rugby reality and not just math.

Each match updates a team’s strength rating, but the size of that update depends on match quality: a Top 14 hammering isn’t graded the same way as a routine domestic scrape.

Teams get credit for dominance (point differential over time), for schedule difficulty (average strength of opposition they’ve faced) and for putting together genuine winning streaks.

What we do not do is blindly reward league position or name value. We are not paying for reputation; we are paying for proof.

If you’re sixth in your domestic table, but you’ve cut up serious opposition and you’re stacking high-leverage wins, you will rank like a contender here.

If you’re unbeaten but you’ve done it by squeezing past mid-table sides, you won’t crack the top tier just for vibes. That’s on purpose. This is built to travel.

Now, because people love to scream bias: yes, leagues are weighted.

The Top 14 and Champions Cup are treated as higher-intensity environments than the rest because that’s where the heaviest packs and most dangerous attack depth live.

That doesn’t mean Premiership or URC teams can’t sit high; Bath, Munster and the DHL Stormers are proof that they can and do, but it does mean that beating up a French contender is worth more than jogging past a bottom-third side somewhere else.

That’s the cost of calling this a world ranking, instead of a polite domestic roundup.

With that said, here’s where everyone lands this week:

1. Munster | 1,634

Even the most optimistic of Munster fans would've found it hard to believe that they would be sitting with five wins from five to start the Clayton McMillan era.

Entering this season shorn of several recently retired veterans, namely Peter O'Mahony and Conor Murray, Munster was somewhat of an unknown proposition.

Yet after five rounds, McMillan's side has shown that the next generation of Munster stars are ready to lead the province forward.

Winning in a multitude of ways, with tight victories over Cardiff, Edinburgh and Connacht, broken up by blowout wins over the Scarlets and archrival Leinster at Croke Park.

Next up, is a top-of-the-table clash with fellow unbeaten side, the Stormers, when league action resumes after the international break.

2. DHL Stormers | 1,613

Unlike Munster's run, there haven't been any close matches for the DHL Stormers, who have blasted every team off the park so far this season.

Last time out was as close as they came to a loss when they trailed Benetton in Treviso.

Fast forward to full-time, and John Dobson's side was celebrating a 31-16 victory that propelled them to the top spot on the table.

Undoubtedly the most potent attacking side in the league with the likes of Jurie Matthee, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Damian Willemse and Evan Roos to the fore, the Stormers have added a hard edge to their game this season.

Dominating teams up front to lay a perfect platform for their explosive ball players has been the perfect recipe so far this season.

3. Toulouse | 1,607

Back where they belong at the top of the Top 14 table, the reigning champions have overcome some wobbly performances so far this season to lead the league heading into November.

When Toulouse has won, it often has been by blowout scores. When losing, it has been big.

Strangely, we get the sense that Ugo Mola's side has only really finished its preseason training after eight rounds and once again is looking to peak at the end of the season.

It's just a hunch, but if so, watch out, everyone in the Top 14 and Champions Cup...

4. Northampton Saints | 1,604

This quite possibly is the most exciting team in professional rugby to watch.

Sam Vesty's attacking structures, combined with a young, dynamic and aggressive squad, have yielded the perfect product in the English Midlands.

Battering Saracens into submission last time out to secure top spot in the Prem ahead of the international break, the Saints look to be a side ready to compete on two fronts this season.

Having come up just short in last year's Investec Champions Cup final, Phil Dowson's side will be itching for silverware.

5. Stade Francais | 1,603

French Rugby's biggest yo-yo team from one season to the next has been on a heater to start this season.

Rebounding from a rather abysmal 2024-2025 season, the Parisians look to be title contenders this time around.

Currently at the top of the log with Toulouse and Pau, with five wins and three losses, we can see the Capri Sun-backed outfit playing knockout rugby next summer.

6. Racing 92 | 1,600

Matching its crosstown rivals' strong start to the season, Racing 92 looks to be a side reborn following two turbulent seasons.

Watching some of the game's biggest names depart in successive seasons would've stung, but in truth, the departure of Stuart Lancaster, Owen Farrell and Siya Kolisi has forced the brain trust to have a rethink on how the club is run.

Still blessed with star players, Racing has built around a strong core with some superb young talent that will grow with the club in a move that should yield more year-to-year consistency.

7. Pau | 1,598

One of the early-season stories, Section Paloise (Pau) trails Toulouse on points difference atop the Top 14 table.

Playing its usual scintillating brand of rugby, Pau has been a really enjoyable side to track thus far this season.

Crucially, the addition of Los Pumas captain Julian Montoya has brought some much-needed steel and leadership in the front row.

If you are looking to put some outside bets on the Top 14 and Champions Cup, Pau could be a good horse for hitching your wagon.

8. Bordeaux Bègles | 1,598

Similar to archrival Toulouse, the Investec Champions Cup title holders have overcome some head-scratching early-season losses to work their way back into the top four of the league.

There is no doubting UBB's firepower and ability to win titles, and similar to Toulouse, we believe UBB used the opening two months as an extended preseason to get game time into the bulk of the squad.

9. Bath | 1,597

Picking up where they left off last season, the reigning Prem champs have looked mighty powerful to start this season.

Losing just once in a narrow contest away to the Leicester Tigers, Johan van Graan's side has gone to another level again this season.

Adding Los Pumas star Santi Carreras as a second distributor in the fullback position alongside Finn Russell, has added a whole new dimension for the West Country outfit.

Such is their class that people felt their 40-15 win over rival Bristol simply was a run-of-the-mill performance.

10. Glasgow Warriors | 1,589

Steaming back toward the top of the URC table with a signature win over the Vodacom Bulls at Scotstoun, the Season 3 champion Warriors were powerful and clinical in the way they simply swatted aside another contender.

At home, Franco Smith's side might just be one of the best teams in Europe and no doubt will be targeting a team run in both the league and Champions Cup.

11. Ulster | 1,582

12. Cardiff Rugby | 1,577

13. ASM Clermont Auvergne | 1,575

14. Bayonne | 1,572

15. Saracens | 1,568

16. Toulon | 1,564

17. Leicester Tigers | 1,548

18. Montpellier | 1,545

19. La Rochelle | 1,542

20. Vodacom Bulls | 1,537

21. Bristol Bears | 1,527

22. Exeter Chiefs | 1,524

23. Leinster Rugby | 1,496

24. Harlequins | 1,481

25. Sale Sharks | 1,469

26. Lyon | 1,469

27. Ospreys | 1,458

28. Benetton | 1,456

29. Castres | 1,454

30. Emirates Lions | 1,452

31. Zebre | 1,445

32. Edinburgh | 1,435

33. Connacht | 1,434

34. Scarlets | 1,395

35. Gloucester | 1,390

36. Hollywoodbets Sharks | 1,385

37. Montauban | 1,383

38. Dragons | 1,378

39. Newcastle Red Bulls | 1,377

40. Perpignan | 1,297
