3 Things To Know About Vodacom Bulls Rugby In 2025--26

The Vodacom Bulls enter the 2025–26 URC season riding high after a dominant campaign that took them all the way to the Grand Final.

They finished second in the table and advanced past the semifinals, only to be stopped by Leinster in the championship match. That run cemented their status as the most consistent South African side in the URC era.

Loftus Versfeld once again proved one of the toughest venues in world rugby, a fortress where the Bulls’ physical game thrives.

Founded in 1998 when South Africa created professional franchises for Super Rugby, the Bulls have long been a standard-bearer for forward dominance. Their three Super Rugby titles in 2007, 2009 and 2010 remain landmarks for South African rugby. After joining the URC in 2021, they have consistently made playoff pushes, carrying the same identity of power, set-piece strength and resilience.

This season, the Bulls return with a loaded roster that blends Springbok internationals and rising stars. Statistical markers from last year showed a team that could overwhelm opponents in attack, rack up points quickly, and grind games out with set-piece mastery. Their challenge in 2025–26 will be discipline and consistency on defense, areas that could be decisive in another title chase.

Handre Pollard Returns To Lead The Attack

The headline addition for the Bulls is the return of Handré Pollard (No. 32) to Pretoria. A veteran Springbok fly half, Pollard brings world-class goal kicking, tactical control and big-match temperament back into the Bulls’ lineup. His presence solidifies their backline leadership and gives them a proven closer in tight contests. With Pollard orchestrating play at No. 10, the Bulls have the general they need to turn set-piece dominance into scoreboard pressure.

Set-Piece Power, But Discipline A Concern

Few teams match the Bulls up front. They won 94% of their scrums and forced a league-best 49 penalties from that platform. Their lineout was similarly sharp, winning 284 throws and stealing 26. These numbers underline why they are so dangerous in knockout rugby. However, they also led the URC in yellow cards (19) and red cards (4), conceding 203 penalties overall. Cutting down on lapses in discipline will be crucial if they want to turn consistency into silverware.

Arendse And Hanekom Round Out The Top 100 Trio

Alongside Pollard, the Bulls boast Kurt-Lee Arendse (No. 44) and Cameron Hanekom (No. 83) in FloRugby’s Top 100. Arendse brings devastating counter-attacking ability from the back three, while Hanekom adds youthful power in the loose forwards. Together, the three create a blend of experience, pace and energy that makes the Bulls one of the most complete rosters in the URC.
