The Hollywoodbets Sharks closed the 2024–25 URC season in third place on the league table, winning 11 of their 18 matches and finishing with 55 points. They reached the semifinal, where they were edged out by the Vodacom Bulls.

Along the way, the Sharks combined set-piece strength with expansive backline play, building on the momentum of their 2023 Challenge Cup title to reestablish themselves among the URC’s elite.

The Durban-based club has a long, storied history dating back to its founding in 1890 as Natal, with its early dominance in the Currie Cup establishing the foundation of its identity. 

Since 1990, the Sharks have won nine Currie Cup titles, while on the international club stage they were runners-up in Super Rugby four times before capturing their first European trophy in the 2022–23 EPCR Challenge Cup. Kings Park remains their fortress, with a reputation for fierce forward play and a steady supply of Springboks.

Statistically, the Sharks were one of the most balanced teams in 2024–25. They scored 473 points and 60 tries (third-most in the league), gained 7,992 metres, and beat 489 defenders. Defensively, they made 2,661 tackles with a 79% success rate. The set piece was a strength: their lineout was the third-best in the league (89% success, 238 won, 23 steals), while their scrum held steady at 90% success. 

Discipline remains a work in progress, with 15 yellow cards and 185 penalties conceded.
