Founded in 2003 as Llanelli Scarlets before adopting their current name, the team carries a proud Welsh identity and represents Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire. Scarlets thrived in the tight exchanges last season. They finished with a 96 percent scrum success rate, winning 119 of 124 contests. Their lineouts were nearly as effective, posting a 91 percent success rate with 230 wins and 18 steals. This efficiency up front ensured steady possession and gave their backs platforms to launch attacks. Maintaining that dominance will be key again in 2025–26.

Discipline Remains A Major Concern

While the Scarlets were strong in many areas, discipline was their Achilles’ heel. They conceded 204 penalties and drew 18 yellow cards, the highest tally in the URC. Players like Alec Hepburn and Sam Lousi ranked among the league leaders in infractions. Cleaning up mistakes will be crucial, as frequent cards and penalties left them scrambling defensively and handing opponents easy points.

Balanced Attack With Reliable Finishers

Scarlets scored 448 points and 53 tries in 2024–25, ranking mid-table but showing the ability to score against top defenses. Their kicking was also effective—33 penalties and 38 conversions, plus two drop goals. While no individual cracked FloRugby’s Top 100, the attack is built on a collective approach. Halfback Gareth Davies and fly-half Sam Costelow are central to their structure.
