The Scarlets enter the 2025–26 United Rugby Championship campaign aiming to build on a competitive showing last season. They finished eighth in the table with a 9-1-8 record, enough to secure a playoff berth before falling short in the knockout rounds. 

Their ability to grind out bonus points and claim narrow wins proved vital in clinching that spot ahead of Cardiff and Benetton.

Formed in 2003 as part of Welsh rugby’s regional restructuring, the Scarlets quickly made their mark with a Celtic League title in their first season. Another URC championship followed in 2017, and the side has regularly featured in Europe’s top competitions. While they have yet to lift the European Rugby Champions Cup, Scarlets have produced British and Irish Lions like Jonathan Davies and George North, ensuring their red jersey is synonymous with Welsh rugby pride.

Statistically, the Scarlets showed flashes of balance last year. They scored 448 points with 53 tries while beating 357 defenders. Defensively, they made 3,271 tackles with an 80 percent success rate. Their scrums were among the league’s most reliable, winning 96 percent, and their lineout success ranked near the top at 91 percent. Discipline, however, was a weakness—Scarlets conceded 204 penalties and drew 18 yellow cards, more than any other team.
