Cardiff Rugby endured another challenging campaign in 2024–25, finishing in the bottom half of the URC standings. 

While they managed several hard-fought wins, inconsistency kept them from contending for playoff places. Their attack lacked the firepower to match top-tier clubs, and defensive lapses cost them in close contests.

Formed in 2003 as part of Welsh rugby’s regional reorganization, Cardiff Rugby—formerly Cardiff Blues—quickly established itself as a leading Welsh side in European competition. The club claimed the EPCR Challenge Cup in 2010 and 2018, becoming the first Welsh team to lift a European trophy. 

While they’ve never secured a URC title, their reputation as a competitive and proud Welsh region remains intact, bolstered by a tradition of producing internationals like Sam Warburton and Leigh Halfpenny.

Statistically, Cardiff scored 409 points and 63 tries last season, ranking mid-to-lower tier in most attacking categories. Their defense recorded a 79% tackle success rate, while their scrum sat at a respectable 93% success rate. 

The lineout, however, was less reliable, with an 84% success rate. Discipline was also a concern—Cardiff conceded 196 penalties across the season. Improvement in these fundamentals will be critical if Cardiff are to rise up the standings.
