3 Things To Know About Zebre Parma Entering the 2025--26 URC Season

Zebre Parma head into the 2025–26 United Rugby Championship still searching for consistency after another year near the bottom of the table. Last season, they finished 15th with just one win and nine points. The Italian club remains vital to national development, regularly supplying internationals despite lacking URC playoff credentials.

With a young core and flashes of individual brilliance, Zebre aim to be more competitive this year.

Founded in 2012 out of the long-standing invitational side Zebre, the Parma-based team represents a broad northern Italian rugby community. While they have never finished higher than mid-table, Zebre have built a reputation for giving prospects like Alessandro Fusco, Simone Gesi, and Jacopo Trulla valuable experience. Their role as a feeder for Italy’s national team underscores their importance beyond results.

Form remains their biggest challenge. Zebre scored a league-low 302 points last season, while conceding 503. Yet they also showed glimpses of attacking flair, producing four tries from kicks and ranking among the league leaders in individual clean breaks through Gesi. Those sparks offer hope that they can upset stronger sides in 2025–26.

Attacking Struggles Defined 2024–25

Zebre’s attack was the weakest in the URC last season, managing just 302 points and 38 tries. Their inability to convert possession into scores often left them chasing games early. Improving efficiency in the red zone will be the top priority if they hope to climb the standings.

Simone Gesi Provides Breakout Potential

Despite team struggles, wing Simone Gesi shined as one of the URC’s top five in clean breaks. His pace and ability to beat defenders give Zebre a dangerous counterattacking weapon. Building their game plan around his speed could help turn narrow losses into competitive contests.

Set Piece Remains A Work In Progress

Zebre’s scrum held steady at 92% success, but lineouts were problematic, ranking 15th in the league with an 82% success rate. Without a reliable platform, it was difficult to sustain attacking momentum. Sharpening execution in these core areas is essential for growth.
