Leinster Rugby Begin 2025--26 URC Season as Defending Champions

Leinster Rugby enter the 2025–26 United Rugby Championship season as defending champions and the gold standard of the league. After years of falling just short in the postseason, Leinster powered through the 2024–25 campaign with dominance in both the regular season and playoffs.

They topped the table with 16 wins and 76 points before sweeping through the knockout stages, defeating Scarlets 37–19 in the quarterfinals, Glasgow Warriors 33–21 in the semifinals, and Vodacom Bulls 32–7 in a commanding Grand Final performance. For Leinster, it was a season that showcased both consistency and a clinical edge on the biggest stage.

Founded in 1879, Leinster are one of European rugby’s most decorated clubs, with nine URC titles and four European Cups. Their system has long produced Ireland internationals, supplying the national side with many of its leading players.

Icons like Brian O’Driscoll and Johnny Sexton defined previous eras, and today’s roster features new leaders in Caelan Doris, Dan Sheehan and Garry Ringrose. That development pipeline ensures Leinster remain the model of sustainable success in professional rugby.

The numbers reinforce their dominance. Leinster led the URC in points scored (644) and tries (93). Their lineout was unmatched, winning 264 with 35 steals, while their kicking game led the league with 18,409 metres and 61 conversions. Their scrum was less efficient at 89 percent, and discipline was a weak spot with a league-high 220 penalties conceded, but those flaws didn’t stop them from producing the most complete season in the competition. Entering 2025–26, Leinster’s challenge is defending their crown against a league that continues to grow in quality and depth.
