Pau Rugby Looks To Rise In New Season | Top 14 Preview

Pau Rugby (13-0-13), or Section Paloise, enters the 2025-2026 Top 14 season with the sense of a team on the edge of breaking into the competition’s upper tier.

The club finished eighth a year ago, right on the cusp of playoff qualification.

While that record may appear balanced, it underscored how competitive Pau was across the year.

Section Paloise, as the club is officially known, has long carried regional pride in Béarn.

Supporters belt out traditional songs on matchdays at Stade du Hameau, and the bear mascot, Bearnie, is never far from the action.

This year, fans also will have the chance to see a squad refreshed by international talent, most notably Argentina’s Julián Montoya, who arrives to strengthen the front row.

The club has experience in Europe, having lifted the Challenge Cup in 2000, and that memory remains a reference point for supporters.

Since climbing back to the Top 14 in 2015, Pau has steadily built consistency, even as the competition’s giants loom large. For the Béarnais faithful, steady progression has been the theme.

Pau’s goal this season will be to convert narrow defeats into victories.

In a league decided by fine margins, that difference could carry them into the postseason for the first time in more than a decade.
