Castres Rugby (13-2-11) enters the 2025-2026 Top 14 season aiming to build on another mid-table campaign that highlighted both their resilience and limitations. 

Sixth place in 2024-2025 showed a club capable of frustrating larger, wealthier sides, while still struggling with consistency away from Stade Pierre-Fabre. 

With new internationals and familiar leaders, Castres is looking to carve out a stronger identity in one of rugby’s most competitive leagues.

Founded in 1898, Castres long has been considered one of France’s most historic clubs. 

The Olympique side was born from a group of students who left their local multisport club in 1906 to form a rugby-first identity. 

Since then, Castres has remained a fixture in the top flight, winning five French championships, most recently in 2018. That title was a reminder that Castres, despite being a smaller-market club, can rise to the top through cohesion and culture.

The Castres 2025-2026 squad again reflects a blend of experience and global reach. 

Internationals such as Jack Goodhue of New Zealand and Leone Nakarawa of Fiji bring pedigree, while Uruguay’s Santiago Arata continues to grow as one of the most dynamic scrumhalves in Europe. 

Alongside them, homegrown players like Mathieu Babillot anchor the forward pack, ensuring Castres retains its identity as a team that thrives on structure and physicality.

The season ahead will test that depth immediately. 

Castres opens at home Sept. 6 against Pau, before facing Clermont and Bayonne. 

October brings a daunting stretch away at Toulouse, Racing 92 and Montauban, fixtures that often define the club’s push for playoff relevance. 

As always, success will depend on protecting Stade Pierre-Fabre, while finding more consistency away.
