Union Bordeaux Bègles Rugby (15-1-10) enters the new Top 14 season with expectations shaped by both frustration and triumph. 

In France’s domestic competition, the club has twice reached the final in consecutive years only to fall short. 

In Europe, though, UBB captured its first Champions Cup trophy in 2025, defeating the Northampton Saints in Cardiff to confirm its place among the continent’s elite.

The club is still relatively young compared to some of its Top 14 rivals, yet its rise has been steep. 

Formed in 2006 through the merger of two local sides, it quickly pushed from the Pro D2 into the top division. Within a decade, Bordeaux was among France’s most competitive teams. 

Now, the club balances ambition with experience as it searches for a first Brennus Shield.

That balance shows across the roster. 

Domestic talent long has been the backbone, but the arrival of Jean-Luc du Preez from South Africa underscores the international pull Bordeaux now commands. He joins a group that features French internationals Damian Penaud and Matthieu Jalibert, alongside seasoned overseas players such as Adam Coleman and Joey Carbery.
