Union Bordeaux Bègles Rugby (15-1-10) is still a young club by French standards, yet it has quickly become a fixture in finals. The club’s creation in 2006 was controversial. Supporters of Stade Bordelais and CA Bordeaux-Bègles opposed the merger at first, but the new organization rapidly climbed to the Top 14. Within 15 years, it was contesting finals and competing in Europe.

The club’s style of play has also become distinctive. Speed in the backs, combined with physicality up front, has made Bordeaux Rugby a balanced side. Fans have seen this play out in dramatic Champions Cup knockout games where both qualities were decisive.
