Here's a breakdown of Pool C of the Women's Rugby World Cup.

The defending champions, the New Zealand Black Ferns, headline Pool C at the 2025 Rugby Women’s World Cup alongside Ireland, Japan and Spain. 

The Black Ferns, ranked No. 3 in the world, open their campaign Aug. 24 in York against Spain, before facing Japan on Aug. 31 in Exeter.

Ireland, ranked No. 5, will start against Japan on Aug. 24 in Northampton and play Spain a week later in the same venue. 

The Irish then will face New Zealand on Sept. 7 in Brighton in one of pool play’s marquee matchups. That contest could decide the group’s top seed and carries added intrigue after Ireland’s recent rise in the world rankings.

Japan, ranked No. 11, and Spain, ranked No. 13, round out the pool. Both sides are seen as competitive but will need to pull off an upset to challenge for a quarterfinal berth. Their head-to-head match Sept. 7 in York may determine which team climbs higher in the final standings.

Pool C fixtures are spread across three cities: Northampton, York, and Exeter.
