The 2025 Bledisloe Cup is during the final two rounds of the 2025 Rugby Championship and features the Wallabies and the All Blacks. Here's what to know.
For many, the biggest rivalry in all of rugby is the New Zealand All Blacks and the South Africa Springboks.
While that rivalry renews Sept. 6 during The Rugby Championship, it might not be the rivalry that first comes to mind to many in the South Pacific.
And it might not have as much at stake as the Bledisloe Cup, either.
Yes, No. 2 New Zealand and No. 1 South Africa will play the most anticipated rugby matches of 2025, but Australia Rugby and the All Blacks have much different history.

First established in 1932, the Bledisloe Cup, named after Lord Bledisloe (Charles Bathurts, 1st Viscount Bledisloe), is one of the top rivalries in all of rugby.
Even if it is a one-sided affair.
The All Blacks piled on yet more wins against Australia last season and will hope to do the same when the two squads meet in the final two rounds of The Rugby Championship in 2025.
“Australia is one of the world’s truly great sporting nations, in my opinion, and they get behind their teams,” FloRugby analyst Philip Bendon said. “In recent years, the Wallabies haven’t really given (fans) much to cheer about.
“But if they can start winning consistently in The Rugby Championship and, in particular, start beating the All Blacks at home, then the buzz around the Wallabies will grow.”

When Is The Bledisloe Cup 2025?
The first of two matches will be in the New Zealand national rugby stadium, Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
The All Blacks are playing two matches at one of the most famous rugby stadiums in the world. First against South Africa, then against the Wallabies.
The first Bledisloe Cup match is at 1:05 a.m. on Sept. 27.
The second heads west, like way west, as New Zealand faces Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth. That match is set for 5:45 a.m. on Oct. 4.

The All Blacks Won The Bledisloe Cup In 2024
New Zealand swept Australia in The Rugby Championship in 2024 and won the Bledisloe Cup.
How Many Times Have The All Blacks Beaten Australia Rugby?
The All Blacks have dominated the rivalry.
In 179 matches, the All Blacks are 126-8-45 against the Wallabies.
When Was The First All Blacks Vs. Australia Rugby Match?
The first match was in 1903 in Sydney, Australia, and it was New Zealand taking the win 22-3.
The first Australia win came in 1910, also in Sydney.
New Zealand Has Won 10 Matches Vs. Australia Rugby
The All Blacks won 10 matches from 1968-1978 and matched that win total last season with their 10th straight match.
If New Zealand wins the opening match, it’ll tie for the most consecutive wins against Australia.
When Was The Last Time Australia Rugby Beat New Zealand?
The Wallabies beat New Zealand on Nov. 7, 2020 in the 2020 TriNations Series.
The last winning streak against New Zealand came from 2000-2001 when Australia won three matches in a row.
An Epic Coaching Showdown Between Scott Robertson And Joe Schmidt
FloRugby analyst Philip Bendon called Joe Schmidt, 59, perhaps the best coach in the world.
The Australian leader built Ireland Rugby into one of the best national teams in the world from 2013-2019. He then helped New Zealand and former coach Ian Foster in 2021 and 2022.
Schmidt is in his final season coaching the Wallabies, righting the ship after a disastrous 2023 Rugby World Cup.
“Joe, in my opinion, is the best rugby coach in the game today from a tactical standpoint,” Bendon said. “What he did taking Ireland from an inconsistent side to No.1 in the world and then turning around the All Blacks from arguably their worst form of the professional era to being World Cup finalists is as impressive as just about anything any coach has ever done in the game.”
Meanwhile, Scott “Razor” Robertson is in his second season coaching the All Blacks after a historic run as the Crusaders coach in Super Rugby.
Robertson was one of the hottest names in coaching before he took on the task of leading the most successful and consistent world team in the sport’s history.
"What Razor did with the Crusaders was absolutely spectacular," Bendon said. "But the reality is that Super Rugby is just nowhere near as competitive as international rugby. And the difference between coaching a club side and a test side has never been bigger."
Robertson's task of installing his way of rugby will take more time than it was with the Crusaders.
"It's just going to take a bit longer for him to embed in the culture he wants and the core value he wants in the squad," Bendon said. "Overall, there have been some really great signs for the All Blacks under Razor. But the Kiwi public just need to understand that they are no longer the dominant force that they were between 2010 and 2019. And that isn't going to change any time soon."
