"We've Been Talking About That Loads" - Henry Pollock On The Upcoming Tests

Henry Pollock says the 2025 British and Irish Lions are chasing greatness and nothing less than a 3-0 series sweep over Australia will do.

The 20-year-old backrow marked his first Lions try during Saturday’s commanding 48-0 win over an Australia-New Zealand Invitational XV in Adelaide.

Celebrating with his trademark gesture, two fingers to the neck, as if checking for a pulse, Pollock brought life to a dominant Lions display ahead of the first test in Brisbane.

“We want to come here and be the best Lions team ever,” Pollock said. “We’ve been talking about that loads, and 3-0 is definitely on the table. Hopefully, we can achieve that.”

The Lions are unbeaten on this tour after five wins in Australia, and their most recent test whitewash came over a century ago — in 1904.

The three most recent three-match series all have ended 2-1, with the Lions winning in 1989 and 2013, and the Wallabies claiming victory in 2001.

Despite stiff competition for places in Andy Farrell’s matchday 23, Pollock, who made his England debut in March, remains focused on being ready in any role.

“I’m happy to play wherever in the back row — six, seven, eight — I’ll adjust,” he said. “If that means not playing, I’ll still do everything I can to help the team.”

Pollock, the youngest member of the touring party, has found inspiration off the pitch, as well.

He’s been rooming with four-time Lion and former England captain Owen Farrell, who made his first appearance of the tour off the bench in Adelaide.

“He’s an amazing player and an amazing person,” Pollock said. “We’ve had some good chats, he’s got kids and I’m just 20, but I’m learning so much from him. His experience is like no other.”

The Lions are managing mounting injuries, with Tomos Williams and Elliot Daly sent home, and others, including Garry Ringrose and Luke Cowan-Dickie ruled out of the Brisbane opener.

But with a lighter schedule ahead, the squad is relishing the chance to prepare fully.

“You have to be mentally strong and physically ready,” Pollock said. “I had a calf issue earlier, but now it’s all about being fit and available. I’ve loved the experience so far now we want to finish the job.”
